What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that killed a person at FM 157 in Ellis County, TX on September 5th, 2022. Police say the incident happened around 7:42 p.m. According to investigators, a Chevrolet Silverado operated by 43-year-old Benjamin Austin was headed southeast on FM 156 when it passenger another vehicle stopped for traffic while waiting to make a turn. It swerved to avoid a collision, passing in what police consider to be an unsafe manner before colliding with a second Chevrolet Silverado operated by 37-year-old Jenie Gonzalez. The collision caused fatal injuries to Gonzalez and possible injuries for Austin. Officers recommended and/or issued a Failure to Pass to Left Safely charge.
