What Happened

New Braunfels Police are investigating a crash that killed one person involved at State Hwy 46 in New Braunfels, TX on July 9th, 2023. Police say it happened around 2:40 p.m. According to investigators, a Ford Explorer with a 16-year-old driver is alleged to have crossed into a turn lane, colliding with a Honda Pilot waiting to make a legal turn in the center turn lane. A front seat passenger in the Ford, identified as 51-year-old Jose Medrano Perez, was taken to an area hospital with injuries he later died form. Two occupants of the Honda, including a 40-year-old woman and 12-year-old child, were hospitalized with serious injuries. A 9-year-old passenger in the same vehicle was also hospitalized with injuries believed to be less serious in nature. A 41-year-old rear-seat passenger in the Ford was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The 16-year-old driver of the Ford was charged by authorities with Intoxication Manslaughter.
