What Happened

Area authorities are investigating a collision that injured a driver at I-20 in Van Zandt County, TX on August 19th, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 4:43 a.m. A Mitsubishi Lancer operated by 20-year-old Katrell Hickerson was going eastbound on I-20 when investigators say the car veered out of its lane and struck the right side of a commercial truck. The car became lodged under the trailer of the track for a time before it spun free and into a median near the entrance ramp to Tank Farm Rd. The commercial truck involved continued without stopping and police believe the driver may not have been aware of the crash. Hickerson was seriously injured. Two of her passengers, ages 21 and 22, were less seriously injured while a third, age 20, was evaluated for possible injuries.
