What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a collision that injured two people at FM 876 in Ellis County, TX on August 9th, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 1:26 a.m. A GMC Sierra operated by 21-year-old Kevin Ortiz was headed southwest on FM 876 when it lost control at a curve and veered from the road. It continued through private property, striking a barbed wire fence and overturning. Ortiz was seriously injured while his passenger suffered minor injuries. Ortiz, who police say may have been drinking prior to the crash, was charged with No Driver License When Unlicensed and Failure to Drive in Single Lane.
