What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials have identified the person killed in the crash at US 290 in Fayette County, TX on July 29th, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 9:42 p.m. A tractor-trailer operated by a 63-year-old Elmendorf man was in a westbound turn lane attempting to turn onto US 290 east. A westbound Hyundai Sonata operated by 24-year-old Kyla Hooper is said to have veered into the left turn lane for unknown reasons and crashed into the rear of the tractor-trailer. Hooper suffered fatal injuries in the collision. The Elmendorf man was not injured.
