What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that involved multiple vehicles at I-45 in Leon County, TX on May 23rd, 2022. Police say the incident happened around 1:12 p.m. According to investigators, a tractor-trailer operated by a 57-year-old Houston man was headed southbound on I-45 along with all other vehicles involved. The vehicles were approaching a construction zone and as it slowed to allow vehicles to merge lanes, the truck collided with the rear of a two vehicles before continuing forward and hitting another vehicles. The truck jackknifed and the driver was ejected from the vehicle, suffering serious injuries. Two teens in one vehicle, ages 13 and 16, were also seriously injured. The driver of their vehicle, age 37-year-old, suffered possible injuries. 64-year-old Daniel Bruce Heinz and 40-year-old Linda Leandra Gonzalez also suffered possible injuries. The truck driver involved was cited for Failure to Control Speed.
