What Happened

Area authorities have information related to the accident that injured three people at US 59 and FM 961 in Wharton, TX on June 29th, 2021. Investigators believe the incident happened around 10:17 p.m. A Honda Odyssey operated by a 55-year-old Cross Mountain, TX woman was reportedly headed northbound in a southbound lane attempting to enter the road from an exit ramp. It then turned into the path of a Toyota Corolla while attempting to enter the road. The driver of the Toyota, 19-year-old Makenzie Bubela, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Her 19-year-old passenger, Briana Lynn Hernandez, as well as the Cross Mountain woman, were more seriously injured. Police say the Cross Mountain woman was allegedly operating the Honda while intoxicated.
