What Happened

Weslaco Police are investigating a collision that killed one person at US 281 in Weslaco, TX on April 14th, 2025. Officials say the incident happened around 2:38 a.m. According to investigators, a Chevrolet Malibu headed northbound in a southbound lane is said to have caused an approaching Chevrolet Colorado to leave the roadway and overturn. Officials say a southbound Hyundai Tucson collided with a Malibu before it was struck by a tractor-trailer. The driver of the Hyundai, identified as 32-year-old Mark Anthony Alvarez, was fatally injured. His 4-year-old child was hospitalized with injuries he also died from. The Malibu operator was hospitalized as well as the driver and passenger of the Colorado. The truck operator was not injured. Reports allege the Malibu operator was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision. Additional information was not available.
