What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that killed a person at FM 8 in Erath County, TX on July 23rd, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 6:23 a.m. A Chrysler Sebring operated by 18-year-old Javier Ponce was headed westbound on FM 8 when, according to investigators, it crossed a center line into eastbound lanes. It then collided with a BMW 3 Series operated by 46-year-old Mayra Chacon. The impact sent the BMW off the south side of the road into a ditch, causing Chacon fatal injuries. Ponce was seriously injured and charged with Intoxication Manslaughter.
