What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that injured two drivers at County Rd 6500 in Hidalgo County, TX on December 3rd, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 2:10 a.m. A Saturn Outlook operated by 28-year-old Eloy Luna Jr was headed eastbound exiting a parking lot when, according to investigators, the vehicle failed to yield right of way and collided with a northbound Ford F-150 operated by 31-year-old Melissa Zapata. Zapata suffered serious injuries while Luna suffered minor injuries. Investigators allege Luna was intoxicated at the time of the crash and records indicate Intoxication Assault and Failure to Yield charges were issued for Luna. Records also show a Driving While Intoxicated-Open Container charges were recommended and/or issued for Zapata.
