What Happened

Area authorities are investigating a crash that injured two people at FM 14 in Smith County, TX on September 27th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 8:05 p.m. According to investigators, a Ford F-150 operated by 35-year-old Richard Bailiff was southbound on FM 14 after allegedly having been involved in a previous crash. Police say the vehicle contained southbound after the crash before veering into a northbound bar ditch. They say the vehicle struck a road sign before returning to the roadway where it collided head-on with a BMW operated by 47-year-old Michael Edwards. The impact is said to have pushed the the BMW into a nearby Mazda CX-5 before the vehicles came to rest in bar ditches and a shoulder. Officials say the Mazda operator was uninjured while Edwards and a passenger, 45-year-old Marcella Edwards, were both seriously injured. Bailiff suffered fatal injuries in the incident.
