What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that injured a pair of drivers at FM 179 in Lubbock County, TX on November 11th, 2021. Investigators place the accident happening around 6:38 a.m. They say a Nissan Sentra operated by 31-year-old Monica Alonzo was headed westbound on County Rd 6500 while a Ford F-250 operated by a 60-year-old Bartlesville, OK man was headed southbound on FM 179. The Sentra is said to have disregarded a posted stop sign at the intersection and collided with the Ford on the front before rotating and crashing into the corner of a fireworks stand and trailer house. The impact caused Alonzo to be ejected from the vehicle and suffer serious injuries. The other driver suffered minor injuries in the collision. Investigators allege that Alonzo was intoxicated while driving and records indicate a charge of Driving While Intoxicated was recommended and/or issued.
