What Happened

Sugar Land Police are investigating a crash that injured an officer at US 59 near Hwy 90 in Sugar Land, TX on March 20th, 2022. Police say the incident involved a vehicle crashing under unclear circumstances around 2 a.m. Officer Ruben Munoz is said to have arrived at the scene shortly after to block an HOV lane as a wrecker truck was set to arrive. Investigators say a pickup truck struck the patrol vehicle as Munoz was inside, causing Munoz to suffer injuries that left him in critical condition. Shortly after, a Jeep then struck the pickup truck. Officer Munoz and both other drivers were hospitalized. Additional information was not immediately available.
