What Happened

San Antonio Police are investigating a crash that killed a driver at I-37 near Steves Ave in San Antonio, TX on July 8th, 2023. Police say a pickup truck was struck from behind by another vehicle, causing it to crash into a light pole. The light pole fell onto the truck and struck and killed the driver, identified as 61-year-old Ricardo Garcia. Following the collision, the the other vehicle involved, a Pontiac G6 operated by 31-year-old John Reyes, is alleged to have left the scene without stopping to render aid or call for police. Police later located Reyes and arrested him on a charge of Failure to Stop and Render Aid Resulting in Death.
