Police say the incident happened around 5:51 p.m. According to investigators, a Chevrolet Equinox operated by 73-year-old Stephen Smith was headed eastbound on FM 1255 as it approached a curve in the roadway. Police believe the vehicle may have traveled along the curve at a speed that was unsafe, causing it to veer from the road into a ditch and across County Rd 4123 into a metal fence.
