What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that killed a teen at FM 317 in Henderson County, TX on June 11th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 2:40 a.m. According to investigators, a Kia Rio was headed westbound ahead of a Dodge Charger operated by 19-year-old Samuel Bautista. There was a vehicle allegedly parked partially in a westbound lane, a 17-year-old pedestrian standing nearby in the westbound shoulder. Authorities allege the Dodge went into an eastbound lane before coming to a stop. As the pedestrian was crossing to the Dodge, she was struck by the Kia, which also struck the Dodge. Bautista was hospitalized with undisclosed injuries. The teen suffered fatal injuries at the scene. The driver of the Kia, 19-year-old Chance Barnhart, was arrested on a possible Intoxication Manslaughter charge. Additional information was not immediately available.
