What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that killed two people at I-35 in Medina County, TX on January 19th, 2022. Police say the incident happened around 3:12 a.m. A Chevrolet Tahoe operated by 28-year-old Bryan Betancourt was headed southbound on I-35 when it lost control and went into a skid. It then went through a center median and collided with the cable barrier before rolling into northbound traffic. It was then struck by a Kia Optima operated by 31-year-old Kayla Gutierrez. Both Betancourt, who officers allege was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash, as well as a passenger, 29-year-old Vanessa Villesca, died. Gutierrez suffered minor injuries. Her 33-year-old passenger suffered more serious injuries. Additional information was not immediately available.
