What Happened

Area authorities are investigating a crash that killed a pedestrian at US 277 in Maverick County, TX on September 3rd, 2022. Police say the incident happened around 10:50 p.m. According to investigators, a Chrysler 300 operated by a 30-year-old male was headed eastbound on US 277 at an alleged unsafe speed in rainy weather conditions. Police say the vehicle hydroplaned and went into a skid before veering into a barrow ditch and hooting a construction sign. It also travelled through the ditch and a fence before colliding with a group of 5 pedestrians. One of the pedestrians, identified as 20-year-old Vilma Yessenia Gonzalez Oliva, died at the scene. The other four were seriously injured and hospitalized for treatment. Additional information was not yet available.
