What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that injured two people at US Hwy 96 in San Augustine County, TX on January 4th, 2022. Police say the incident happened as a heavy duty truck was attempting to back into a private driveway. Investigators say the truck was blocking travel lanes when a it was struck by an eastbound pickup truck. The driver of the pickup truck, 51-year-old Whitt Smith and the driver of the 18-wheeler, 50-year-old Billy Thomas, were both hospitalized with undisclosed injuries.
