What Happened

Area authorities are investigating a crash that killed one person at State Hwy 86 in Swisher County, TX on August 23rd, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 5:40 p.m. According to investigators, a Ford F-250 operated by 21-year-old Zachary Reyes was westbound at Hwy 86. At the same time, a Chevrolet Silverado operated by 35-year-old Heriberto Cantu was northbound on FM 2301, nearing the Hwy 86 intersection. Sources say there is not a posted stop sign at Hwy 86 and it has been alleged the Silverado ran its posted stop sign before colliding with the Ford, causing it to overturn. Cantu was ejected in the crash and suffered fatal injuries at the scene, according to sources. Officials say Reyes and three passengers were hospitalized with injuries considered non-life-threatening. The passengers were identified as 33-year-old Danny Anderson, 23-year-old Cody West and 26-year-old Seth Schulte. Additional information was not available.
