What Happened

A multi-vehicle crash on I-80 led to at least two deaths in the Iowa City, IA area on January 8th, 2023. Officers believe the crash happened around 5:40 a.m. and involved as many as 15 vehicles. Nine of the vehicles were semi-trucks and it is believed one of the vehicles lost control before creating a chain reaction crash. Authorities added that the roads were ice and snow covered and believe weather to have played a factor in the crash. Two of those involved identified as 57-year-old David Mosinski and 37-year-old Junier Caballero-Verneo, suffered fatal injuries. An undisclosed number of people suffered unknown injuries. State Police are currently investigating.
