What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials have more information on a crash that killed two adults and seriously injured children at FM 241 in Cherokee County, TX on December 19th, 2022. Officials are saying it happened around 4:15 p.m. According to investigators, a Dodge Journey operated by 33-year-old Scott Helm was headed westbound on FM 241 on roads believed to be wet at the time. The vehicle is alleged to have been traveling at a speed that was deemed unsafe before it lost control and went into a skid. It traveled across the road into an embankment where it hit a culvert, causing it to overturn. The crash left Helm and front seat passenger, 33-year-old Rocio Helm, with fatal injuries. Two children in the vehicle had serious injuries. Additional information was not yet available.
