What Happened

Austin Police are investigating a crash that killed a woman at Hwy 123 and East Access Rd in Austin, TX on May 17th, 2023. Police say it happened sometime before 9:45 p.m. as 51-year-old Shannon Denise Sumbling was walking to work. Investigators say she was struck by a pickup truck under unclear circumstances and allege its driver, 66-year-old Daniel Verdin, left the scene. Sumbling suffered fatal injuries in the collision.
