What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that injured a driver at US 75 in Plano, TX on May 11th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 7:52 a.m. According to investigators, a commercial truck operated by a 51-year-old Lucas, TX man was approaching vehicles ahead slowing for traffic. They allege the vehicle failed to control its speed, possibly due to driver inattention, and collided with the rear of a stopped Kia Optima. The impact pushed the Kia in the Chrysler Aspen stopped in front of it. The driver of the Kia, identified as 46-year-old Happy Mardis-Martinez, had injuries police believed to be serious in nature. The occupants of the other vehicles were reportedly uninjured and the Lucas man was cited for Failure to Control Speed.
