What Happened

Authorities are investigating a crash that injured three people at State Hwy 71 in Smithville, TX on March 26th, 2024. Police say the incident happened around 9:44 p.m. According to investigators, a Hyundai Sonata was eastbound while a Volkswagen was stopped at a stop sign at the intersection with 8th St. Police allege the Hyundai was traveling well over the posted speed limit as the Volkswagen was proceeding into the intersection, the vehicles colliding as a result. The impact is said to have pushed the Hyundai into a nearby cable barrier, leaving 46-year-old driver Jessica Duncan, seriously injured.
